Who we are

McOwen Donald Electrical Ltd is responsible for the personal information described here (the "controller" under UK data protection law).

What we collect

When you book online: your name, phone number, postcode, the service you need and anything you choose to tell us in the message box.

When you call or email: your contact details and what you tell us about the job.

When we do a job: the property address, details of your electrical installation, test results and certificates, and invoice and payment records.

We only ask for what we need to arrange and carry out the work.

How we use it

• To reply and arrange a visit. Our lawful basis is taking steps you asked for before a contract.
• To carry out the work and invoice you. Lawful basis: performing our contract with you.
• To issue electrical certificates and notify building control. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
• To keep accounts and tax records. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
• To remind you when a service or certificate is due. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in keeping your installation safe. Tell us any time and we will stop.

We never sell your details, and we do not send marketing unless you have asked us to.

Who we share it with

Only the people who need it to do the job:

• the form service that delivers online bookings to our inbox
• our email, accounting and website hosting providers
• NICEIC, our registration body, which tells your local council's building control about work the Building Regulations require us to notify
• your landlord or letting agent, if they arranged the visit
• authorities such as HMRC or the Health and Safety Executive, where the law requires it

Some of these providers may store data outside the UK. When they do, it is protected by UK adequacy regulations or approved contract terms.

How long we keep it

• Enquiries that do not become a job: up to 12 months.
• Job and invoice records: 6 years, to meet accounting and tax rules.
• Copies of electrical certificates: kept longer, so we can answer questions about past work on your property.

After that we delete it securely.

This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers.

Our icons load from jsDelivr, a content delivery network. Like any web server, it receives your IP address so it can send the files to your browser.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• give you a copy of the information we hold about you
• correct anything that is wrong
• delete your information, unless the law requires us to keep it
• limit or stop how we use it, or send it to you in a portable format

It is free, and we will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
